God does amazing things. A simple statement, yes, but one that holds a lot of truth. How can I say that? The proof is all around us. Sometimes we forget to look, or we simply start to take those things for granted. That's why I think every mature believer should be discipling a young believer. What better way to be reminded of God's amazing grace than to see it through the eyes of someone who hasn't grown accustomed to it?

My mother is a new believer. Today, as I sat at my computer getting ready to write, my phone rang. It took me a moment to figure out that the excited and out-of-breath voice at the other end was Mom. She proceeded to explain how worried she had been about paying a bill and making the rent.

My pleasure in hearing her voice turned to concern and then to confusion. For she didn't sound worried about not having enough cash. Instead, there was joy! She told me that she had just gotten home from work and checked her mailbox. Inside was a refund from her insurance agency. She hadn't expected it to come so soon, and it was just what she needed to make ends meet.

Her joy came from the realization that God was truly looking out for her. She had taken another step toward grasping what Jesus said: "Do not worry about your life...Look at the birds of the air,...your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" (Matthew 6:25-26). What I had been telling her some time suddenly became tangible proof that spoke volumes.

I could picture the grin on her face, the check clutched in her hand, and God looking at her with pleasure. One of his precious children had noticed He was really there taking care of her.

And in that moment I was reminded of the way God had taken care of my family in similar ways. My faith was refreshed as I realized God doesn't just do amazing things. He truly is amazing.

Matthew 6:25-34

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
